The Pursuit Of Happiness😄
If you ask yourself about your greatest goal in life, then most of the time it would be to attain lifelong happiness. Different people have different definitions of happiness. Some relate happiness to money, some to fame, whereas others relate it to security or maybe family. But if you think about it, then what really is happiness? Is it a reward that can be achieved only after years of hard work and stress, or is it a gift that you keep getting every time you do something good? No, it isn't. It's just one simple truth - you're happy when the others around you are happy, and the others around you are happy when you're happy. So when do you really know when you are happy? Let's see 😉
First of all, happiness is not something that you "achieve" or "attain". It's something that you find without actually looking for it. It's hidden in the smallest, most cherished moments of life. To break it down, happiness is SERENDIPITY in its purest form. You can find it while singing in the shower or late-night chatting with your friends or walking your dog because, at that moment, that is the place that you wanna be, those are the people that you wanna hang out with. This is what happiness is, doing what you love at any given time.
Now of course this doesn't mean that you should sit on your butt the whole day and binge-watch Netflix just 'cause it makes you happy. You need to work to make a good and fulfilling life for yourself. But to what extent? I mean are all those hours of sitting and studying non-stop really gonna make you happy? Are all these crazy workout regimes and strict diet plans really gonna make you feel better? Doing all of this stuff is definitely important, but you should never be doing it just for the sake of doing it. You should always have a goal in mind because you just can't achieve happiness before achieving your goals first, no matter how big or small.
And lastly, for those of you who think that happiness is nestled in gorgeous mansions, lavish meals, overpriced dresses, and whatnot, lemme explain it to you this way. The satisfaction and joy that you get from eating a ten-rupee Pani Puri from your local vendor is a thousand times better than your 5-star restaurant meal. The love and warmth that you feel by sitting in a small cramped-up room with your family members, legs on top of one another jaise thand na ghus jaaye is way better than sitting alone in a grand hotel with a scenic view. Ten years from now I'm not gonna remember all the shiny, hip-hop places that we visited in Bandra-BKC, but I'm still going to remember reaching Worli at 6 am and just enjoying those Mumbai rains; because that is what happiness is, it's the small moments that you're gonna remember forever and always.
So today, on the International Day Of Happiness, hug somebody, make someone smile, tell someone how much you love them, and do what truly makes you happy😍
And as rightly said by the musician Paul Simon - "I've got nothing to do today but smile."
