Sound Rise: The Trendiest Party In Mumbai feat. TribesforGOOD

What's better than to spend a Saturday evening at one of the most casual yet trendy parties in South Mumbai? The party that I graced my presence at last Saturday was organised by a popular initiative among the Gen-Z's of South Mumbai, known as Sound Rise. Sound Rise is a creative space solely created for live music to thrive and for families to enjoy. And if that isn't enough, it also allows many different organisations/brands/companies - both big and small - to set up their own stalls and sell their merchandise during the event. This party is held from January to March in and around various venues in Banaglore and South Mumbai. So how did I come to know about this party? Well, that's a funny story, actually.

To bring you up a bit to context, I'm currently associated with a social enterprise called TribesforGOOD. Through the means of TribesforGOOD, I came to know about a pre-loved and clean-up drive that they would be organising during the Sound Rise event. Now, what exactly is a pre-loved drive? A pre-loved drive is an initiative where people donate their "pre-loved" items such as old clothes and books to different non-profit organisations or to the ones in need. Since my mother was, as it is, threatening to throw all of my old clothes and books in the trash (can't blame her, I have too many), I decided, what's the harm? And that's how I convinced myself to get out of the house and explore this party. Honestly, this was how I imagined my evening would go - I would get in the car while dragging my extra heavy bag of pre-loved items, argue with the GPS for a bit because it's obviously not my fault that we missed the flyover, reach the venue half an hour late (I trust my navigation senses), say a sad goodbye to my pre-loved items, fail miserably at mingling with total strangers, convince myself that I did not waste my time and did a good deed, reach home after getting lost a second time, and then feel sad about how all this was a waste of time. However, it was anything but.

The moment I reached there, the first thing that struck me was the vibe. The vibe was SO GOOD. Live music in the air, people casually enjoying the pleasant weather, the aroma of croissants being baked in the food stalls and the view of the big blue sea in front of us. After spotting the TribesforGOOD stall, I gave away my pre-loved items and met Mandeep Kaur, the founder and CEO of TribesforGOOD, and was awestruck by her friendliness and affability. After giving away my items, I wandered off a bit near the stage where all the others were either sitting or standing or eating or socializing - basically having the time of their lives.

Soon, I was called by Mandeep for the clean-up drive. Armoring ourselves with a garbage bag and some gloves, we set out to pick up the garbage that was lying around the area. I had imagined annoyed people shooing us away as we blocked their view in the process of potentially saving the environment, however, to my utter surprise, every single person there was kind enough to not only dump their own waste themselves, but also thank us! On top of that, some of them even asked us why we were doing this and from what organisation we were! We did the clean-up drive two times - once in the middle of the event and once at the end. By around 7:30-ish, the vibe had completely changed. Cars were starting to pile up as people started leaving; some were still sitting and relaxing to the music as now the band had switched over to more mellow tunes, complementing the cool weather adorned by the setting sun. Content with how I spent my evening, I went to the stall once again to bid goodbye to both Mandeep and Jinal (one of the amazing representatives of TribesforGOOD) and came to realize that many people had bought my books! Heck, an auntie had swung by earlier and bought all of my Amar Chitra Katha comics!

Here are some videos of the live music :)

This was an unforgettable and an unexpected experience, and I only wish I had a friend or two to enjoy it with. Nonetheless, Sound Rise is something that you should most definitely visit regardless of how busy or lazy you are because honestly, this was one of the most amazing Saturdays of my life and I would kill to experience it again.

Before signing off, I would just like to give a shout out to both Mandeep and Jinal (and TribesforGOOD, obviously) for inviting me to this party and hope to visit Sound Rise again in the future. Also, if there's a pre-loved drive somewhere, call me ;)

(I have wayyyy too many extra things)

Bill Watterson- We're so busy watching out for what's just ahead of us that we don't take time to enjoy where we are.
